I AM: A Slam Poem

Elliana Hughes, Staff

I am tired. I am in pain. I have nothing to gain. My life is going nowhere.

I hear these lies from the time I wake to the time I lay down.  Every waking moment is like I’m going to insanity.

I want to go back to my fantasy. But I let go of it.

So I look up to heaven and cry out, “God if you really care, why do I hear these so-called lies? Can you just hold me? Please, I can’t do it anymore.”

As the tears slowly stop streaming, I hear a voice singing. And I soon start singing.

I am enough. I am a pearl. A ruby. A diamond. A rose among thorns. I am a princess.
