Cheer Competition

The CHS cheerleaders recently went to the 2014 State Championships hosted by the Missouri State Cheer Coaches Association. The competition was in Columbia, Missouri. The cheerleaders started the day at the school at 7:30 a.m. to get their makeup and hair done, then had to leave the school by 9. When they got to Columbia, they watched many teams perform before it was their turn.

“The teams before us didn’t have anything on us but Borgia and Sikeston were the only ones that kind of made me nervous. We definitely owned those mats and showed them who’s boss. We were so fierce and I’m proud of us,” says Kylee Curtis.

They placed 5th but they were all very proud with where they placed. There were 14 teams in their division, so placing 5th is very good. Each of the girls received a medal and the coaches were awarded a plaque.

Coach Angie Hagerty said, “It has been a remarkable season watching the ladies on this squad develop their skills, their work ethic, and their personalities. Being on the competition squad takes a lot of dedication and commitment with practices beginning in early June. Although I don’t have any past experience with state competition, I will say that I was proud of their finishing in 5th place with 14 squads in our division. I am already looking forward to next season with anticipation.”
