Last night, the Central Rebels Boys Basketball team headed to Cuba, MO to play for the Class 3 District 3 Championship Title. The Lady Rebels had played before them but were shut down with a four point loss to the Steelville Cardinals with an final score of 46-42.

The pressure was on for the boys as they had to come out of the locker rooms with the loss of the Lady Rebels. The loss before them didn’t stop them from playing their hardest. The Rebels started with a good tempo and had a good lead early on.

Brent Wagner showed up Thursday night ready to play. He sank the first four of his three-pointers, helping the Rebels get a decent lead and ended the night with 18 points. Wade Scherffius also helped the Rebels to their 65-48 victory against the Steelville Cardinals, scoring 17 of the 65 points with a total of four assists. Wade had been battling dehydration problems due to a virus, but that didn’t stop the senior from playing in his potentially last game of his high school career.

Senior Holden Mayberry also came out with a good pace, scoring 16 points with ten rebounds for the Central Rebels. Other teammates that helped push to the victory were juniors Will Hopkins and Jake Casey. The team stayed alert the whole game. At one point of the game the Rebels had a 20-point lead. This came when Casey and Wagner sank three three-pointers in a row making the score 30-13. The Rebels advanced to the Class 3 state sectional round, and will face either Whitfield or Hancock at Jefferson College on Wednesday night.
