The Rebel Speech team proved successful at the Southeast Missouri Speech and Debate Tournament last weekend. On Friday, the CHS Reader’s Theatre group Haley Francis, Mikayla Watkins, Andrew Wyrick, Michael Cantrell, and Willis King took second. On Saturday, Haley Francis took 3rd in Storytelling, Mikayla Watkins took 3rd in Prose Reading, Michael Cantrell took 3rd in Humorous Interpretation, and Willis King took 3rd in Radio Speaking.

Their next step is State. They will be traveling to Springfield, Missouri, from April 19 to April 21 to compete at the state level.

“I’m super excited to go to State [to] represent our district and our school,” exclaims junior Michael Cantrell.

The state competition will take place at Missouri State University. Here, the best of the best performers, interpreters, debaters, and speakers from all over Missouri will come together to compete against one another.

“I am very excited to go to State! … It is fun to see all of your hard work pay off and to spend time with the team in Springfield,” says senior Haley Francis.

The pressure is on, but the Central Rebel Speech team is stepping up its game.
